FNF Academy Governance

The Florence Nightingale Foundation continues to support and advise organisations on best practice in relation to shared governance. Our own governance of the FNF Academy enables this horizontal structure to exercise power for our Membership, Alumni and Friends of FNF.

Nurses, Midwives, Nursing Associates and Students from FNF Academy Member Organisations are able to influence the decision-making and policy influence of the Florence Nightingale Foundation Academy via our Members Advisory Group or our Shared Governance Forum (find out more below).  We are committed to ensuring diversity of voice in our decision-making structures and therefore have protected seats e.g. workplace setting which are regularly reviewed.

Those working for member organisations can also get involved by applying to join one of our Subject Expert Groups (Sustainability, Early Career, Innovation & Entrepreneurship or Authentic Leadership).

You can apply to join these different groups further down on this page.

Principles of shared governance include multidirectional communication that is consistent and trustworthy and the creation of a shared vision. Our shared governance structures ensure the voice of nursing and midwifery staff and students are at the centre of everything we do and guide our strategic priorities.

Our annual Academy Members’ Symposium also plays an important role in hearing from both established and early career nursing and midwifery leaders by facilitating an opportunity to receive the latest updates on progress as well as influence future focus. The 2024 Members Symposium will take place in the Autumn.
