This May, we’re asking you to do one simple but powerful thing: make a commitment to take action for FNF.  We’re launching our very first FNF Action Month, and we’d love you to be at its heart.

You may choose to complete a fundraising activity during May, or to commit in May to doing something later in the year – what matters most is making that pledge to support more nurses and midwives to stay, thrive, lead and transform health and care.

We’ve chosen May because 12 May marks Florence Nightingale’s birthday. On this day in 1916, a simple wreath‑laying at her statue in Waterloo Place, London sparked what became “Lamp Day” – a national fundraising movement supporting women serving in the First World War.

More than a century on, we’re reinvigorating the spirit of Lamp Day and expanding it into a full month of action, celebrating the power of nursing and midwifery today.

Make your commitment this May

During FNF Action Month, we’re inviting you to commit to doing something for FNF.

Your activity can take place:

  • In May, as part of Action Month itself, or
  • Later in the year, at a time that works best for you.

Your commitment could include:

  • Take on a challenge – run, walk, cycle or swim
  • Organising a fundraiser – a bake sale, quiz night or workplace event
  • Coming together with fellow FNF alumni, colleagues or your organisation to take on a challenge event
  • Or simply committing to make a donation

Every commitment – big or small – helps us plan ahead and support more nurses and midwives to lead, influence and change health and care.

Challenge events across the year

If you’re thinking about taking on a sports challenge, we can support you every step of the way.

We have access to hundreds of UK events over the next year, from 10Ks to full marathons – including the Saucony London 10K, Cardiff 10K, major autumn half marathons such as the Great Scottish Run, Cardiff and Royal Parks, and the Manchester Marathon in April 2027.

We’ll be offering more places in 2027 marathons as soon as they go on sale.

Whether you’re aiming for a personal best or taking on your first event, there’s something to suit every level.

Cheri Lewis (FNF Scholar) pictured above, climbed the tallest outdoor structure in NYC, using the experience as a powerful metaphor for leadership – facing fear, taking action and embracing transformation. And raised over £500!

Support to help you get started

If you’re committing during May, we’d love you to share your plans using #FNFActionMonth and let us know what you’re pledging to do – your commitment could inspire others to step forward too.

Ready to commit?

If you’d like to make your commitment, talk through an idea, or plan something for later in the year, we’d love to hear from you.
