Florence Nightingale Foundation (FNF) is delighted to welcome the former Chief Nursing Officer for England as its new Patron.

Dame Ruth May retired from the post of Chief Nursing Officer for England this year after 5 years in the role. Her NHS career spanned almost 40 years during which she held senior leadership roles, including as an NHS chief executive and regional and then national roles with Monitor, NHS Improvement and NHS England. She is also a proud FNF Scholar.

Ruth joins another former CNO for England, Dame Yvonne Moores, as FNF Patron, and the Royal Patron, HRH Princess Alexandra, The Honourable Lady Ogilvy KG GCVO.

On her appointment as FNF Patron Ruth said: “I am honoured to be invited to be a patron of the Florence Nightingale Foundation. Throughout my career I have worked to nurture the next generations of nursing and midwifery leaders, so I am delighted to join the foundation and support its invaluable work to build nursing and midwifery leadership and encourage the professions to use their voice to influence policy and practice.”
