Emma Janavicius is 28 years old and has been practising as a paediatric nurse since 2019. She graduated from Anglia Ruskin University with a Bachelor of Science with Honours in Paediatric Nursing, in 2018 and spent the first 4 years after graduating working on the general paediatric wards in the NHS. Since then, Emma has transitioned to a role within Spire Healthcare and has been working as the Deputy Lead Nurse for Children and Young People for the past 18 months.

Alongside nursing, Emma also works at her design studio which specialises in bespoke, calligraphy and engraving projects all over the UK and when FNF put out a call for help with a project a few months ago, Emma got in touch to help.

“Since finding out that I was the designated calligrapher for a new book being created by the Florence Nightingale Foundation, to hold all the names of the Florence Nightingale Commemoration Service Lamp Bearers, I could not wait to get going with planning and designing the layout of the book.

For me it was so much more than just words and names on a page. Each and every stroke was formed with great care, precision and delicacy. Greta and the team at FNF placed all their trust in me to create a beautiful book for all the years to come. The best team I could have asked for. The moment my nib and ink made contact with the paper I was able to reflect on the number of incredible and inspiring individuals who have taken part in previous commemoration services.

Personally, being involved in the event at Westminster Abbey was so special and gave me a sense of connection with the names I inscribed. Being selected to be the designated calligrapher was an absolute honour and an opportunity that I will never forget, and incredible contribution I have made, a moment and opportunity I will remember for the rest of my life. So amazing that I was able to share my skill and passion and what an honour and moment in history to be a part of!

This opportunity has encouraged me to see my skills and passion for calligraphy and engraving grow and develop, with hopefully more collaborations with the FNF, brands, events, weddings and bespoke orders.”
