Green Healthcare Leadership Programme

Overview

The Florence Nightingale Foundation in partnership with Nuffield Health are pleased to offer a bespoke leadership development programme which will be available to 20 Registered Nurses working in the Independent Healthcare Sector.

This exciting opportunity will enable you to explore and enhance your personal leadership attributes, develop your political acumen, and enhance your influence. You will also undertake a quality improvement (QI) project focused on sustainability in healthcare which will aim to have a regional or national impact.

This programme offers a supportive learning space to develop leadership identity, capacity, and capability to influence organisational and patient outcomes at a local, systems, national and international level of healthcare delivery. Expert speakers will be invited throughout the programme to contextualise the leadership learning to these topics. The outcome of the programme and project will be a three minute ‘elevator pitch’ which will be presented at the celebration event to a VIP audience.

Eligibility Criteria

The Florence Nightingale Foundation along with Nuffield Health are pleased to offer this opportunity to nurses working in the independent sector – Grades 7 and above. Currently only open to nurses in the independent sector.

Application Process

The application, shortlisting and selection processes will be administered nationally by the Florence Nightingale Foundation with Nuffield Health representation at shortlisting and interview.

What you will need to demonstrate in your application form and interview:

  • How you will use the programme to work with others, learn from, and share experiences
  • How the programme will support your personal development plan (PDP)
  • How you will use the experience to improve patient and health outcomes
  • Your aspirations to develop as a leader
  • Support from your line manager and Chief Nurse to enable you to attend all learning sessions/opportunities as part of this programme

Upon application, you are required to upload the following information:

  • Personal, employment and education information
  • A copy of your NMC registration documentation
  • An electronic photo of yourself (head and shoulders in high resolution)
  • A completed nominator referral form (completed by your line manager and Chief Nurse) with authorisation to join the programme
  • Completed terms and conditions

Please note before application:

  • Applications that do not demonstrate commitment to the profession, improving patient and health outcomes, commitment to the Florence Nightingale Foundation Alumni will not be considered
  • Incomplete applications will not be accepted
  • Applications without line manager or Chief Nurse support will not be accepted

Programme Structure

The Leadership programme will be undertaken over six months and includes:

Day 1
  • Personality Preferences and Performance in Teams (Virtual)
    Utilising Myer Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) we will explore how personality preference influence personal leadership styles and how awareness can enable the promotion of high performing teams.
Day 2
  • Principles and Practice of Quality Improvement (Virtual)
    An introduction to QI including approaches to leading change management and measuring impact.​
Days 3 And 4
  • Building your Authority, King's Fund 2-day programme (Virtual)
    Development of leadership attributes which enable influence from ward to board. Specific consideration will be given to exploring the sphere of your authority and leading upwards
Day 5
  • Presentation of Self: Presence & Impact, Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts (Face to Face)
    Practical approaches to developing confidence and clarity in the delivery of key messages for a range of audiences including the media.

Day 6
  • Sustainability Module (Virtual)
Day 7
  • Action Learning Sets with Executive Coaches (Virtual)
    An online module focused on the use of coaching skills to provide on-going reflective learning with a view to enabling high support high challenge within teams.
Day 8
  • Celebration Event (Face to Face)
    An opportunity to network showcase and celebrate the impact of your Quality Improvement Projects and Leadership Journey.

You will be supported to undertake an improvement project which will enable you to apply your learning to practice. The top projects will be selected to present at the celebration event.

You will join the FNF alumni community and receive ongoing networking and leadership development opportunities through events, webinars, media engagement and policy thought leadership.
