Green Healthcare Leadership Programme (SE England)

Overview

The Florence Nightingale Foundation, along with NHS Southeast, are pleased to offer a bespoke leadership development programme for nurses, midwives and AHPs working in the South East Region within NHS settings.

This opportunity supports participants to explore and enhance their personal leadership attributes empowering them to innovate and lead change. Each nurse, midwife or AHP will lead a sustainability change project focused on maximising impact contributing to the ripple effect. Projects from last year’s inaugural programme included carbon-reduction and waste management initiatives that have resulted in greater use of reusables, reduction of clinical waste, and initiatives that de-carbonise patient pathways.

The programme offers a supportive learning space to develop leadership identity, capacity, and capability to influence organisational and patient outcomes at a local, systems, national and international level. Using principles of sustainable clinical practice delegates will develop projects aligned with Prevention, Patient Self-Care, Lean Service Delivery and Low Carbon Alternatives. The outcome of the programme will be an Elevator Pitch and Poster which will be presented at the celebration event.

The programme is delivered in partnership with a team of leadership development experts from the Eden Project, Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts (RADA) and FNF.

It takes place over nine days spread over nine months, and includes a two-day residential at the remarkable Eden Project in Cornwall, which takes place at the start of the programme.

The residential programme offers an immersive learning experience . Delegates will connect with nature and leave with the tools to influence and transform the sustainability agenda in their work setting, as well as a renewed sense of clarity, balance and motivation.

All programme sessions, as well as one night accommodation and meals in Cornwall are fully funded, with no payment required. However please note that travel expenses to and from Cornwall and to all other all face to face sessions are not included.

The programme was a finalist for the Nursing Times Workforce Awards in the Best Social Responsibility Programme and Rachael Brown, Infection Prevention Nurse at Nuffield Health Warwickshire Hospital, was awarded a Florence Nightingale Foundation Scholarship for her sustainable healthcare project that reduces the use of couch covers at Nuffield Health Warwickshire Hospital.

You can read more about the impact in the blog from previous participant Mauvena Rowe-Mason here.
