Professor Jacqueline Leigh has over 30 years’ experience as an adult nurse and nurse academic. Having worked as a senior nurse in healthcare organisations across Greater Manchester, she transitioned into higher education initially as a Lecturer Practitioner, progressing to lecturer, senior lecturer, Reader and in 2018 awarded a Personal Chair at the University of Salford via the Teaching and Learning/Student Success pathway. Jackie is currently Director of Nursing & Midwifery Education at Edge Hill University.
Her expertise in nurse education practice is recognised at the highest level. For example, Jackie is an Advance HE Principal Fellow and National Teaching Fellow and was part of a team awarded Advance HE Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence (2018) and Student Nursing Times Partnership of the Year Award. She sits on the Editorial Board of British Journal of Nursing and has experience of governance in a charity though her previous role as Deputy Chair at Healthwatch Salford and is currently the Appointed Governor for Edge Hill University at Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
As a professor of nursing who has taken the teaching and learning route, Jackie’s main research area focuses on teaching and learning, particularly around practice learning, nurse education and leadership development. Jackie also edits and publishes books that have a teaching and learning focus, such as the Transition to Nursing Practice from student to registered nurse and Supervising and Assessing Student Nurses and Midwives Clinical Practice.
