Since 1929, the Florence Nightingale Foundation (FNF) has inspired, nurtured and supported senior, middle and early career nurses and midwives. FNF has continued to develop inspirational and innovative leaders ensuring nursing and midwifery talent stays in the profession they love.

We create bespoke leadership opportunities to explore individual leadership styles and develop skills to be confident and impactful leaders. We inspire nurses and midwives to strengthen their voice to improve patient outcomes through innovation, research, evidence based practice and policy change.

FNF Principles of Leadership Development

  • Nurses are leaders at every level and through the life span of their careers.
  • Self awareness and emotional intelligence are at the heart of leadership development.
  • Leadership is underpinned by our values, motivations and aspirations. Leadership is therefore truly unique to the personal and professional journey.
  • Leadership is enacted when the person defines their sphere of influence and steps into their authority.
  • Leaders embed a culture of learning for all and promote shared decision making across health and care systems.

Our Promise, we will:

  • Develop and grow the very best talent in nursing and midwifery.
  • Connect and network nurses and midwives to collectively become the positive voice of nursing and midwifery.
  • Shine a light on nurses and midwives and their innovative practice.
