Did you know our leadership programmes are available in flexible online modules?
At FNF we offer a range of delivery methods for our leadership development programmes. Through tailored online courses we can offer the same transformational approach as in our face-to-face programmes, but in a more flexible way, reaching larger numbers of people, whilst still providing space for networking and peer-to-peer support. This is the perfect opportunity to support clinical excellence and improve motivation and retention of your workforce in a cost-effective way.
We have online courses aimed at specific groups of healthcare professionals, who often find development opportunities hard to find or to access.
- Early Career Nurses and Midwives
- Internationally Educated Nurses and Midwives
- Healthcare Support Workers (Developing IPC Champions)
The programmes all provide participants with an online learning space to enable them to build personal resilience and confidence in speaking up, develop their leadership style, navigate healthcare delivery, create change in the workplace and understand how to progress their career.
- Across all three courses 96% of the delegates agreed with the statement “I am motivated to create change in my workplace as a result of this programme”.
- 93% of the delegates said the online programme was “engaging”.
- 97% of delegates would recommend the programme to others.
Participant feedback
“The FNF online programme for early career nurses has equipped me with the basic knowledge I need to influence people towards a positive change. All modules in the programme have been of great advantage in my practice. However, I find most beneficial the importance of understanding my personality and that of my team, which is a primary factor that determines how we perceive and react to things. Also, the co-consulting module exposed me to some client case scenarios and I was able to solve some cases as proposed leaders in my team. This is an aspect that is new to me. I would encourage anyone who looks forward to becoming a leader someday to partake in the FNF online programme for early career nurses. Not only will you gradually build up some skills, but will also be equipped with skills needed to practice effectively.” Ginika Ifechukwu, Early Career course participant, Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust
“This course has been so motivating and rewarding. It has boosted my confidence a lot. I’m reserved and somehow an introvert but it really gave me confidence that I can also lead regardless of my personality type. This programme has also been very informative and inspiring after listening to the career progression journey of other international nurses. If they did it, I can also do it. My journey is not that different from theirs. Having done this programme I am definitely changing for better, taking the lead and I also want to inspire other nurses that will come after me.” IENM course participant, Staff Nurse, Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust
“I have really enjoyed the course and I like how it was split into small modules and was very interactive. I feel I can take a lot away and use this in my current job role. From the very beginning I was thinking of ways to improve areas and hope to use my new skills to do this! Thank you FNF.” HCSW, IPC course feedback, Rotherham District General Hospital
Each course consists of 30-40 hours of self-directed study over several months, with three or four live webinars (also recorded) and there is a mix of expert teaching and facilitation and peer-to-peer learning and networking.
All the online learning is hosted on our customised Learning Management System. This is a secure platform that enables learners to access materials and ongoing support, and where they can also interact with each other and their facilitators.
Our online learning is interactive, with meaningful clinical narratives, using a wide variety of multimedia, where the content can be worked through at a time that suits each participant.
Organisational feedback
“Our trust is committed to investing in our employees, recognising their invaluable contributions to our healthcare system. Our junior nursing workforce, which predominantly comprises overseas professionals, greatly benefits from opportunities to enhance their skills and integrate leadership attributes. To support their growth and development, we have enrolled them in the FNF online Early Career Leadership course. We believe this programme is tailored to help them cultivate essential leadership qualities, enabling them to drive professional growth, enhance patient safety, and deliver high-quality care. By equipping our nurses with the skills and confidence to lead, we are building a stronger, more resilient healthcare workforce for the future.” Renny Heald, Matron for Workforce Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells Trust
“It’s important that our nurses have input into their leadership development early on in their careers. We see the difference this makes. It’s such a unique opportunity and we have received fantastic feedback from the participants. Investing in our people like this is a win-win.” Natasha Frith, Head of Education and Clinical Training, HCA Healthcare UK
“For globally educated colleagues, being offered opportunities such as the programme, facilitates their realisation of their leadership capability and provides them with the tools to enhance and hone. It is vital that these talents amongst our IENMs are nurtured and enriched here as they become a huge part of our present and, most importantly, future workforce. This is the possibility the programme presents.” Lindy P Garrucho, Senior Clinical Educator, International Nursing, University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust
“The FNF IPC champions course has evaluated really well at the Rotherham NHSFT. This bespoke course not only offers clinical updates on infection, prevention and control but equips our healthcare support workers with leadership skills they continue to practice in their clinical areas. From this development, we have recognised our FNF IPC champions at Board and they have been instrumental in our new Golden Commode award (now at 17 clinical areas) The only negative feedback was they didn’t want it to end.” Cindy Storer, Deputy Chief Nurse, Assistant DIPC, Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust
