Developing Midwifery Leaders Programme overview
Health Education England has partnered with the Florence Nightingale Foundation to offer this leadership development opportunity for midwives in the South East of England.
Since 1929, the Florence Nightingale Foundation has been committed to advancing the study of nursing and midwifery practice, promoting excellence and preparing nurses and midwives to follow in the footsteps of its namesake, to provide the best possible care to patients and service users across the UK. This leadership programme is fully funded by Health Education England. it offers 22 midwives in the South East of England leadership development to become Florence Nightingale Foundation (FNF) midwives, future leaders of healthcare.

What does the programme involve?
This is a 5 module, 6 day programme
Module 1: Welcome Day and Introduction to Self (1 day) - a briefing day to establish individual cohort learning communities. An introduction to self and impact of self on others through Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) assessment and exercises.
Module 2: "Introduction to Improvement" ( 2 day) - residential programme. Facilitated discussion on current leadership challenges and diversity in the workplace. Introduction to quality improvement to inform and support a improvement project to be completed as an outcome of this programme.
Module 3: "Presence & Impact" (1 day) delivered by the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts (RADA) Programme designed to build personal presence.
Module 4: "Next Steps" (1 day) to identify next steps in the leadership journey.
Florence Nightingale Commemoration Service, Westminster Abbey, London, May 12th 2020 - a unique opportunity for nurses, midwives, health care professionals, family members and guests to celebrate their professions and at the same time give thanks for Florence Nightingale's extraordinary legacy to health care.
1 day - Award ceremony to celebrate the success of the FNF Midwives at end of the programme.
The programme will be held in Central London. Cohort 1 will begin in February 2020
Welcome day: 9th March 2020
Residential: 25th and 26th March 2020
RADA: To be allocated one of the following: 1st, 2nd or 3rd April 2020
Final Day: 5th May 2020
Celebration Day: TBC September 2020
We will accept applications from Band 6 and 7 midwives working in the South East who provide NHS funded care. It is relevant for those considering their leadership development and future career pathway. Do you need to pay? No. This programme is fully funded including refreshments and lunches for all programme days. Hotel accommodation, refreshments, lunch and dinner on the residential programme is also funded. RADA course fees and entry to Westminster Abbey event are also included. It is expected the travel costs to attend the programme will be funded by your employer and without this commitment your application will not be complete and therefore will not be considered for shortlisting.
