Gill is the Lead Nurse for Children, Young People and Families in the Chief Nurse, Maternity and Early Years Directorate at Public Health England. Gill has a background in public health and school nursing and is passionate about improving outcomes for children, young people and families. She is committed to providing leadership for public health nursing, national policy development and the modernisation of the Healthy Child Programme.
Gill has over 35 years of experience in nursing, leadership and education. She has led quality care, excellence and innovation to reduce inequalities and deliver improved health outcomes and experience of care.
As Senior Lecturer and Programme Leader for Specialist Community Public Health Nursing programmes at Liverpool John Moores University 2009-2020, she offered leadership and developed relationships with partners to co-design high-quality programmes of education responsive to the changing healthcare environment. She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and a member of the National Forum of School Health Educators (NFSHE).
Gill has a research interest in the child healthy weight, and the impact and evaluation of school nurse interventions. She is undertaking a part-time PhD entitled “Learning from success: What factors determine successful child healthy weight management practices in school health services?”.
